OFF THE CUFF: Panama geopolitical upsurge

PANAMA seems to be destined to play a key role in Latin American geopolitics. Despite the impairment of its foreign policy history in recent years, the situation of several of the protagonists of the VII Summit of the Americas, to be held in the country in April, could revitalize the role of the isthmus and the regional meeting itself.

Without doubt, says political commentators the main attraction of this year’s summit is the joint attendance of the United States and Cuba, at both political and ideological ends of the continent. A few weeks ago, however, their leaders announced the implementation of dialogues to restore their political, economic and diplomatic relations.
