75 Panamanians in Windy City marathon

75 PANAMANIANS registered for last week’s Chicago Marathon, and 66 completed the course.

Several of them managed to record  times making them eligible for other high profile events like the Boston Marathon.

The best time of the Panamanians runners was ny Franklin Castillo, who completed the 42 kilometers in 2 hours 52 minutes 47 seconds in the 30-34 years category.

In addition to Castillo, four Panamanians recorded the time required in their respective categories, to participate in the 2016 Boston Marathon.

They were Eduardo Arias (2: 58.25), Ignacio Granda (2: 58.53), Carlos Cañizales (2: 59.34) and Oscar Carrasquilla R. (3: 22.14).

The Chicago Marathon was won by Kenyan Dickson Chumba with time 2:09:25.

“The 16 – 24 Celsius temperature was warmer than normal in Chicago, but cooler than the Panama competitors were used to.

Oscar Carrasquilla, one of the runners summed up the performance in cooler climes:

“In the end it was worth the effort for several months workouts, healthy eating, no drinking, sleep early  Running is a healthy lifestyle, of which we should all take notice,”
