Panamas justice system a prostitute in rags

PANAMA’S  JUSTICE system is in rags  and  is seen as a prostitute in the eyes of the  people said a former Electoral Tribunal (TE) judge when interviewed for a Supreme Court post. Wednesday, November 25  by the State Committee for Justice

Guillermo Marquez Amado, 66, made a parallel between the current image of the Supreme Court, with his time at  the TE in 1990, after the  US invasion to overthrow dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega.

Hesais that when he was selected as a judge of the Electoral Tribunal in 1990, the institution had the worst image in the country.

But when he left office in 1996, it was the best evaluated just below the church and the media. He said he would seek to follow suit with the Supreme Court if selected.  the position.

“I will not lack energy to improve the Court. You have to awaken  the good faith of those who work there. Justice have turned into a prostitute in the eyes of the people. That’s not uplifting. There is much to be done to clean up the system.”.

The reforms required by the system are set forth in the Covenant will of State for Justice, “he claimed.

Amado Marquez said that currently he has no “absolute relationship” with anyone in the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, the Comptroller or the National Assembly.

He defended the implementation of the adversarial criminal justice system, and considered  it suitable for Panamanian society.

He said that there is an excess of incarcerated people. “There are prosecutors who send people to jail for any nonsense.”

In his view, the lack of monitoring the backlog worsens. Meanwhile, he urged to raise salaries of officials of the judiciary.

“I have no qualms about two mature people of the same sex living together, but I do have qualms about a child growing up with them,” he said.

In reference to abortion, he said it “denied the opportunity for life to a human being. Every child should have that opportunity since it is designed” so  he would be apprehensive if legalize this healthcare process was legalized.
