Strong waves alert on Caribbean coast
A STRONG WAVES warning that will last throughout the Christmas was issued on Wednesday December 23 by Panama’s National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).
The alert covers the Caribbean coast of Panama (Bocas del Toro, Colon, Veraguas, Guna Yala and Darien). It lasts from 12:00 am, Wednesday, until 11:59 pm Saturday December 26.
Sinaproc Director José Donderis, warned that the waves can be dangerous for swimmers and small vesselsand to the those living in areas vulnerable to flooding . He urged residents and holidaymakers to take security measures during the four days.
“All boats should take extreme safety and security measures for safe navigation in coastal waters” he said.
An alert system with colored flags, will be in place on beaches in the threatened areas: green (safe to swim); yellow (swim with caution); and red (swimming forbidden).
