Corruption probe and audit for education ministry
FOLLOWING Monday’s firing of three directors and a deputy director of the Ministry of Education (Meduca), Attorney General Kenya Porcell, has asked the anti-corruption prosecutor to launch an investigation to determine whether there was any kind of administrative irregularity within the administration.
A source told La Prensa those fired were the national director of Administration, Ivanessa Mojica, and the deputy director, Mariana Castillo; Director of Curriculum, Dayra Garcia Becerra, and the national chief of Purchasing, Rodolfo Shaik.
The Director of Legal Services, Luis Cedeno Merel resigned.
Parallel to the corruption investigation, Porcell on Thursday Jan.14, asked the Comptroller General to initiate an audit.
“We are concerned about the multitude of flaws in the administrative processes, particularly the tenders. We have had several bids that are delayed because there are claims in the Court of Public Procurement and rectifications requested by the Comptroller, and when a balance is made, mistakes are repetitive, leaving room for doubt about the managers responsible and basically lost confidence, “said Education Minister Marcela Paredes. The Comptroller appointed a team of fourpeople, who will be responsible for the audit.
