OFF THE CUFF: War on drugs and shell companies

VICE PRESIDENT and Foreign Minister Isabel Saint Malo de Alvarado is in  New York to participate in the session special of the UN Assembly on the world drug problem with increasing concerns over the failed “war on drugs”” industry.

But with Panama still in the eye of the MossackFonseca offshore  storm she is expected to take the opportunity  expected to announce “the commitment of the Republic of Panama to continue to cooperation with the international community in the fight against abuse of the corporate and financial services platforms,” better known as money laundering

She will also highlight the actions implemented by Panama in both sectors, taking into account international requirements “but without neglecting the interests of the country,” said a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Between Monday and Wednesday, the chancellor has planned bilateral meetings with Christian Leffler, the assistant secretary general for Global and Economic Affairs. Among the topics that will be discussed are creating a “center of cooperation between agencies committed to fighting drug trafficking.”
