Killer escapee gets 5 years added to 50-year term

 

The Dominican  Gilberto Ventura Ceballos, already serving a 50-year sentence for the murder of five university students was sentenced to 60 months in prison and the payment of a $1,000 fine, on Friday, May 31 for escaping from the La Joyita penitentiary center and illicit association to commit a crime.

He was found guilty on May 3. That same day, Judges María de Lourdes Ortiz, Marisol Osorio, and Mirna Palma acquitted Lieutenant Ricardo Flores, Corporal Carlos Pérez and inmate Ameth Portocarrero.

The escape took place in December 2016.

Ventura Ceballos was captured on September 29, 2017, in Costa Rica, and in 2018 was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of five university students in the district of La Chorrera. between 2010 and 2011.

The victims were  Yessenia Argelis Loo, Yong Lian Wu, Samy Zeng Chen, Georgina del Carmen Lee, and Mauricio Liu Wong.
