Metro travelers come face to face with Panama history
Travelers on the Panama Metro on Thursday, August 15 came face to face with iconic characters from the country’s history on Thursday August 15 by some of the most iconic figures in the history of Panama, as part of the celebration of the founding of Panama the first Pacific coast city built by the Spanish conquerors 500 years ago.
The ghosts from the past were recreated by actors who traveled the subway cars and 30 stations playing the roles historical characters including the conqueror Vasco Nuñez de Balboa, his indigenous concubine Anyansi, “The mother of the Nation,” Maria Ossa de Amador, the English buccaneer Henry Morgan, among others.
Carlos Aguilar Director of the Cultural Institute (INAC), said that the initiative was carried out in on the the two lines of the transport system from 6:00 am until the late afternoon.
“Each subway station became a theater, an exhibition gallery of paintings, sculptures and photography. The entire capital city capital and the main cities were activated with cultural events to celebrate 500 years and the creation of the Ministry of Culture, ”said Aguilar .
On the same day President Laurentino Cortizo sanctioned the law creating the Ministry of Culture, and confirmed that he will appoint Aguilar as head of the portfolio.
