Health Minister demands speed-up in construction of Children’s Hospital
After a tour of the site of the new Children’s Hospital on Monday when he learned that it was only 10.55 % complete Health Minister Luis Francisco Sucre called for new strategies and said that by next Monday the construction company should be presenting a document with the new commitments and delivery dates.
“We are asking the construction company to improve the times because the Panamanian population wants to see faster results,” said Sucre.
According to the commitments made, the times should be shortened, and by the month of November the deep excavation of almost several meters below sea level should reach street level, he said.
The Children’s Hospital is being built on the site of the former United States embassy on Balboa Avenue and will have parking floors, and a cafeteria and will provide outpatient and emergency care.
The Ministry of Health and the company Acciona Construccion, SA., signed the contract for the construction, equipment, and corrective and preventive maintenance of the new Hospital, the Santo Tomas Hospital maternity wing for $614,118,054.
