Royal Navy repels Houthi attack on destroyer
Britain’s Royal Navy confirmed this Sunday that it has successfully repelled an attack by Yemen’s Houthi insurgency against one of its destroyers in the Red Sea.
The attack took place Saturday against he ‘HMS Diamond’, which “successfully” defended itself from an insurgency drone with the help of its Sea Viper missile system.
“There is no evidence of victims or damages among the crew or on the ship,” adds the Ministry of Defense on its account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
This incident has brought underlying issues to the surface, including the financial feasibility of using high-cost missile defenses against low-cost unmanned aerial vehicles. Nevertheless, the successful defensive action by HMS Diamond underscores the potency of the Royal Navy’s assets in guarding global shipping routes against emerging aerial threats.
