Ex-president  fails second attempt to void country prison

 

The defense of the former President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, tried to modify the precautionary measure against his client in an investigation for the crime of Money Laundering.

It is the second time that the ex-president tried to change the precautionary measure of country-prison that he suffers. . The first attempt was in January of this year, when the third liquidating Judge of criminal cases, Baloisa Marquínez, denied his request to leave the country, for a period of 17 days, to travel to Spain.

The information on the second rejection is detailed in an edict from the Second Criminal Case Settlement Court of the First Judicial Circuit of the province of Panama, dated December 16.

The appeal was flatly rejected as untimely on December 12.
