Buffoonery in the mayor’s office
The “citizen consultation” promoted by the Mayor of Panama to build a new market in the coastal strip – a project for which between $40 and $50 million would be allocated – is one of the worst farces that the mayor has tried to sell us in his eagerness to concretize, at any cost, his crazy plans. What your mayor’s office calls “citizen consultation” is a terrible buffoonery: carried out in the midst of a pandemic, with repeated signatures among a tiny group of “consultants” -of only 22 people-, carried out in less than an hour and focused on a single place . His alleged query is an insult to the citizens who inhabit this city and once again confirms his authoritarianism, blatantly mocking the procedures provided for making investments with decentralization funds. It is clear that it was a terrible decision to choose this person to occupy the most inhabited district in the country –with more than 1.2 million residents– and whose city needs to be less hostile, in urgent need of public recreation areas. But the mayor, blind to the evident needs of his fellow citizens, will be remembered as the most incompetent official of the capital city in recent decades.- LA PRENSA, Feb. 5.
