Ministry seeks funds for unpaid protesting doctors

Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre has requested an extraordinary meeting of the Budget Committee of the National Assembly to achieve the urgent transfer of $10 million after doctors in the front line of the fight against Covid-19 demonstrated on Avenida Balboa and in La Chorrera and threatened a sit-down strike.

The demonstrators said they had not been paid since being recruited in mid-June.

Sucre indicated that  $6 million will be used in the payment of shifts and contracts and the rest for the purchase of supplies and equipment necessary during the pandemic.
