Second quake in Colon after Chiriqui homes destroyed
A second earthquake this time of magnitude 5.4 was registered on Sunday, May 12, this time in Colon, following the earlier 6.3 quake in Chiriquiwhich affected 64 people, including adults and children and totally destroyed 8 homes.
according to reports from the Civil Protection System, (Sinaproc), the shock came soon after nine o’clock at night, with the epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers and was located 43 kilometers from Nuevo Paraíso, in Colon.
The Joint Task Force reported that 43 adults and 19 minors were affected by the theearlier quake, whose epicenter was 22 kilometers from Puerto Armuelles.
The Social Security Fund assisted an adult over 98 years of age, a pregnant woman of 37 years and two children of 8 and 7 years old, who suffered injuries due to the earthquake. The National Aeronaval Service (Senan) carried out the transfer of a 17-year-old boy who suffered a fracture.
Eight houses were totally destroyed and five 5 were with partially damaged in the district of Barú where schools were closed on Monday.
Schools in the Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui must take precautionary measures before children enter says a Ministry of Education press release.
