OFF THE CUFF: The good, the bad and the fake
POCKET LINER – Ricardo Martinelli has launched yet another appeal against yet another denial of a writ of habeas corpus. Bad for Panama’s court system, good for the bank balances of his lawyers.
The latest denial was on Thursday. April 4 when three judges declared his provisional detention legal and that he will remain jailed until the end of his trial which resumed on Friday. During the hearing, Martinelli threatened to sue the Public Ministry, in addition to his earlier threat to sue the Judge if Guarantees in an earlier hearing.
On Thursday, a Court of Appeal, composed of judges Carlos Rivas Geovanni Antinori and Mauricio Marín, unanimously considered that the former president must remain in custody – as ordered by the plenary of the Supreme Court on December 21, 2015-. He Martinelli has been detained in El Renacer since June 11, 2018, when he was extradited by the United States, after 364 days in a Miami jail while it was determined if he was extraditable.
FAKE NEWS – President Trump who believes global warming is a hoax keeps saying wind turbines cause cancer (they don’t) and can stop you from watching TV (they can’t) reports Buzzfeed.
