OPINION: Shaming lawmakers via the pocket

MEMBERS [of the National Assembly] are the group that represents all citizens.
The adoption of laws, the prosecution of judges and presidents, and periodic review of government action is required of men and women committed to the future of the country.
Their constant absenteeism and indifference to such delicate obligations, which they sought so laboriously, through the popular vote is an act of disrespect to their constituents and the nation.
The proposal to deduct from their salaries corresponding to the time of their absences time is a good start to punish them morally and make them face part of the cost caused by their breach.
The seats are not letters of marque to disregard the rules citizens must follow, especially workers and employers whose taxes pay their salaries.
Institutions may be in crisis from the historical legacy of our political class, but the conduct of Members is a way to further damage the soul of a people in need of true leaders and examples to follow.
