Panama group wins Latin America musical Oscar

THE PANAMA musical group Afrodisíaco,     received   a Silver Seagull award  ( at Latin America’s most prestigious  music festival,  the Viña del Mar in Chile on Friday, February 26.

Their  song Viene de Panamá, (Come from Panama)  took the festival’s  musical “ Oscar”  in the folclorico category and earned a $27,000 cash award The festival is considered to be the most important in Latin America.

The Afrodisiaco quintet   after coming top in two earlier rounds,  was selected as the winner over finalists from Peru and the United States.

The panel of judges for the finals included Venezuelan singer Ricardo Montaner.

When the group returns to Panama they will be recording their first disc.
