Fire destroys 150 indigenous homes
A fire swept through the indigenous Guna community of Aguas Claras in the Madungandí Comarca, destroying 150 homes on Wednesday, June 3.
The disaster began just after 3:00 pm with the explosion of a gas tank, and with no relief agencies or fire services in the area, the community was unable to stop the spread of flames to other houses, which are built with dried stalks and straw, only the local school escaped destruction.
No deaths or injuries were reported and local authorities have arrived at the scene and are awaiting the assistance from national institutions.
