New ecotourism plan, Bay wetlands protected

 THE WETLAND area of Panama Bay became a protected area on Monday, February 2 as President Juan Carlos Varela signed off on a new law which he said represents the effort and struggle of civil to protect the natural heritage.

With the law, important wetlands are preserved to safeguard the communities of Juan Diaz, Tocumen and Pacora, said Varela. who also announced the launching of initiatives to “reforest degraded areas , favoring the relationship between forests and water “.

The President said that in the coming weeks he will be launching a joint action plan for the development of ecotourism in 10 protected areas nationwide.
These are: The National Park Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro; La Amistad International Park, which covers the provinces of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro; The Volcan Baru National Park in Chiriqui; Coiba National Park; Santa Fe National Park in Veraguas; The Wildlife Refuge Isla Iguana, Los Santos; The Omar Torrijos Herrera National Park in Cocle; The San Lorenzo National Park in Colon; The Darien National Park in Darien; El Camino de Cruces National Park in the capital.
