Panameista candidate elected to Court of Auditors

FORMER SUPREME COURT Judge, Alberto Cigarruista has been elected as a new judge of the Court of Auditors by the plenary of the nine judges of the Supreme Court. A member of the Panameñista party, Cigarruista was elected by a vote of five to four, judicial sources said.

Cigarruista will replace Ileana Turner, whose term expires Jan. 15.

The vote was made during an extraordinary session of the court on Monday January 5. Judges Victor Benavides and Oyden Ortega nominated Cigarruista, and were supported by Harley Mitchell, Jerome Mejía and Abel Zamorano.
Peter Chatlani was elected as the alternate judge.
Cigarruista was a candidate of the Panameñista party in the 7-2 circuit for the National Assembly.
He will join judges Óscar Vargas and Álvaro Visuetti in the court reports La Prensa.
