Mentored by Panama, banned by Venezuela Assembly
THE VENEZUELAN Congresswoman who, at Panama’s behest tried last week to participate in a closed doors session of the Organization of American States (OAS) has been dismissed from her country’s National Assembly.
Maria Corina Machado is accused by the government of Venezuela of inciting violent demonstrations that have left at least 32 dead since February, and was dismissed Monday, March 24, in the midst of a legal offensive against radical opposition leaders.
President of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello said the dismissal was decided after Machado 's participation last week at a meeting of the OAS as “Alternate Representative " of Panama .
On Friday, the deputy was invited as " Alternate Representative " by the Panamanian government to speak at the session of the OAS which included a discussion about Venezuela , but after a poll was excluded.
"I am a member of the National Assembly of Venezuela elected by the people of Venezuela and I will continue ," said the lawmaker from Lima Machado participates in Lima on Monday at a forum organized by the foundation of the Nobel Prize for Literature Mario Vargas Llosa.
Machado , an industrial engineer,46, was in 2012 a presidential candidate in the primaries of the opposition Democratic Unity Table , which was bywon Henrique Capriles .
She figure caught the media attention last year, after a brawl in parliament left her with a broken nose.
Along eith the leader of the opposition Popular Will Leopoldo Lopez , arrested a month ago and now in a military prison on charges of inciting violence, she was one of the promoters of " Output " , a strategy that called for demonstrations since February 12 in Caracas in order to force the resignation of the elected government of Nicolas Maduro.
