Major investment plan for Gorgas Institute

A LONG TERM $100 million investment plan for Panama’s famed Gorgas Institute is in the works.

The plan is to build new facilities for the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies in Clayton.

The information was confirmed by Nestor Sosa, director of the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES). He explained that the Ministry of Economy and Finance will manage a $10 million fund for new infrastructure.

Prensa.com reports: "… the campus will have other buildings, such as a biomedical experimental station, a central reference laboratory in public health, and another laboratory for food and water." Also being built is an administration building, a building for teaching and conferences, and another for general support.

All of the buildings will be built in stages. At the moment some of the offices of the entity are operating in the St. Thomas hospital, because the site located on Avenida Justo Arosemena has experienced some damage.
