New political alliance to oppose mayors policies

PANAMA CITY council members of the Panameñista party and the Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD) have confirmed they have formed an alliance to oppose the policies of the city’s City Mayor Roxana Méndez.

The mayor had proposed a budget that would have cut discretionary funding for the members and placed those funds her control.
Rio Abajo Representative Javier Ortega (PRD) said the 12 PRD members of the council have aligned themselves with the two Panameñista members to oppose the budget and to "work as a team to improve the administration of the municipalities in the capital."
Bella Vista Representative Ricardo Domí¬nguez said the alliance is not political because what is being sought is to work in favor of the municipality of Panama.
"We have come together to improve, not to hinder, the work of the mayor," Domínguez said
