National anti-Martinelli march set for May 24
The National Front for the Defense of Social Security (Frenadeso) called has called for a national march, against the “Ricardo Martinelli government’s corruption and repression”
“Repression” has been against the indigenous population, teachers' groups and health professionals says Saul Mendez, a member of the National Union of Construction and Allied Workers (SUNTRACS).
The march will start at 4:00 pm at Belisario Porras Park in Peru Avenue, and will continue to the presidency.
Mendez said: "The march is a protest against the high cost of basic goods and transportation, corruption by the Martinelli family and high ranking government leaders.
The marchers will express opposition to the “persecution” of teachers unions and health professionals, and “repression” against indigenous people who insist that the government should cancel the Barro Blanco hydro project.
Mendez's remarks were made Sunday, May 20 during a meeting of the national leadership of Frenadeso at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CONUSI).
