Beefed up security for Carnival

Jose Castillo, head of the National Police in Panama City announced that an extra 125  police in groups of five will be stationed in the carnival area   starting Friday February 16, through Tuesday.

There will be  four entry points and three exits to the Carnival area near the Fish Market on the Cinta Costera, where officers carrying Pele Police (hand held computers) metal detectors and a new design of breathalyzers will be deployed and pickup trucks fitted with towers and cameras will be used for surveillance, but normal liquor closing hours will be jetisoned during the festivities.

Security checkpoints will be in place at the intersections of Cuba Avenue, Avenida Mexico, Peru Avenue and Justo Arosemena.
