Decision on new supreme court judges delayed

The Cabinet Council failed to  conclude on Tuesday, October 18, the choice of 10 new judges of the Supreme Court (CSJ).

The Council has  decided to analyze each of the 112 applicants for the post.

The statement came from the  legal director of  the Presidency of the Republic, Ana Belfon.

 Belfon explained that each of the ministers of state was given the 112 records of candidates for judges for the study.

The Cabinet Council will  appoint five judges and five alternates. Two judges would be to replace Alberto Cigarruista and Winston Spadafora, whose terms expire December 31, 2011.

Three new justices of the new Fifth Chamber of Constitutional Guarantees. Will also be chosen.

The last time the council set out to analyze all the submissions, President Martinelli stepped in and made his own choice, one of who resigned under a cloud within weeks.
