Expats  who have  announced their intention of fleeing Panama  in June will have more time to pack their bags as the ban on international flights has been  extended until July 23, "for reasons of public health."

The announcement was made   Wednesday, June 17, by Gustavo Pérez Morales, director of the Civil Aeronautical Authority (AAC) . All humanitarian flights and those that transport equipment or supplies necessary to face the coronavirus pandemic are excepted.

Commercial and passenger flights were banned March 23, and were originally supposed to restart on May 23, but since then, the AAC has extended the measure, first until June 22 and now until July 23.

The suspension involves changes in the schedule of the Panamanian flag line Copa Airlines,  that on June 3 announced that on June 3 it was preparing to restart operations.

Air transport is included in the fourth phase of the economic recovery plan. The first started on May 13 and the second on June 1. There is still no date for the activation of the other phases.

Pedro you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. Panama is not top of the lists as posted. It’s number 20 in respect to cases and number 28 in regards deaths. Both per million. For those returning to US be mindful that 10 States saw an uptick in cases this last week with Florida now the projected new epicentre . I believe most posting here were headed to Southern States where most saw a strong increase in new cases. You can dodge the riots and police enforcement but leaving the relative safety of Panama May not be the wisest move right now. Pedro stay on the donkey and off the tequila.

No one thinks life in Panama is good now, if they do they are deluding themselves. Some people are trapped here not through poverty but because they have purchased here and need to sell prior to leaving. Panama does attract a lot of poor gringos who get by on a retirement check. In the USA they are just poor gringos but here in Panama they become the wealthy poor gringos in the eyes of the locals. For the first time in their lives these gringos have some kind of status and are not about to leave and lose that. Here in Cambutal there is a mix of young and old expats. Times are difficult because there are no tourist dollars but it's true the old people have their retirement checks and can continue to eat. the younger folks it's a mixed bag with some getting support from mama and daddy and others holding on trying to make it through until normalcy returns. The Guy who signed the contract on our place is already trying to renegotiate the deal. He says times are tougher so he wants to pay less. We told him that we have a similar offer as back up (true) since we lowered the price by more than 50%. The value of everything here is collapsing and even the locals now know it. The smart people will sell now and take less of a loss. I see a crime wave coming and I want out of Panama before it arrives.

Friends took yesterday the flight to Frankfurt/ Germany. Even the new Troll writers of the Dictator Cortizo and his Regime will not survive alone with the Canal. It looks like all the Gringos are gone or will go. Be happy Trolls but there will be a bunch of negativas appear from lawsuits against Panama ( about Billions) no income for Panamanians ( no Gringos no money) Civil war in the streets ( or do they believe a Dictatorship is calm without weapons and deaths ?) I will go away too and send my cedula to this Regime and with me a lot of these "moneyspreaders" they never come back. The average Panamanian is pretty much the same than Ortega Maduro Cortizo and the Commie Bukele: Stupid and not able to live without Gringo money. Have fun in the future Trolls by Gallo Pinto instead of the good life.

complain, complain, complain.... whats the matter 'Dave and Linda' ..Dave you can't speak for yourself? The health care situation in Panama is one of the best in Latin America especially in the private sector (private hospitals/clinics) and a great many of the doctors are trained in the U.S. The national health system (CCSS) is overwhelmed obviously but rather than making an inaccurace statement about the whole of the health situation here try being a little bit fair. Statistics also show that the most vulnerable for the virus are those in the 24 - 30 age not the older folks. And yes SLINK out and cheat the folks who rented you your place. Nice going. At least they will get to keep your deposit if you made one..... Pedro. El Presidente does not personally report every bank account to every country... the U.S. put out a dictum (as in do it or else) that all countries dealing with the U.S. banking system must report expat bank accounts. Another example of U.S. imperialism. Actually other countries have total lockdown greater than here. Check the stats. JB tens of thousands? Sounds a little bit exagerated but I don't know the total and really do not care if all the crybabies leave. Maybe i can find a few properties to purchase for the kids.

Jb.... The poor ones are those leaving because they did not have the money to retire here. They came and loved the place but needed to do something to make a buck. Us retired folk that are staying do not have that problem, so it's not that we can not afford to leave it is we don't have to. Life is good when you retire in panama

This article is just another opportunity for the whiners to sound off. I can't wait for the whiners to leave. Can you please do me a favor whiner? Once you get your flight out, please stop posting. No need to hear from you again. You will be back home with the Black lives matter movement and Antifa and the hatred and Political Correctness that is so prevalent in the US. There may be civil war in the future. There will be economic hardship in the future. My advice to you once you get back in the US is break out Grandpa's old shotgun's and his Civil war cavalry sword. You might need them. I am riding it out right here. Its not perfect but I prefer it. Thanx Panama for giving me a safer place to live!!

A dream that has turned into a nightmare. We found Panama, thought it was paradise, now turned into a nightmare. Just want to live a normal life free from dictators. Get out while you can.

Well you might not miss them but collectively the tens of thousands of people who have left Panama will have a huge impact on the economy here, not to mention the IQ of the country. The guy who thought he had a renter through next March will now have no income and many people pay their mortgages with collected rents. So while thousands of rentals go empty, restaurants go under and all the economic stimulus of gringo dollars dries up you will be fine. Of course until the ensuing poverty raises crime and as one of the only gringos left here you are targeted. People trapped here show their bitterness when they see others leaving. If you are to poor to leave don't hate on people who can.

I hope they schedule some more Humanitarian flights because I am at my break point with this nonsense. It's not my fault Panama has a terrible healthcare system that can be overwhelmed so easily. I am starting to believe what others post about this virus only being for old and sick. Even if they did away with the quarantine today the lifestyle here will never be the same. Masks, social distance and every business bankrupted. My lease here is until February but I am thinking about slinking out on a humanitarian flight. The reasons I came here no longer exist. Lifestyle sucks so no point in staying.

Dictator Cortizo now reports personally every bank account in Panama to all foreign nations. He wants to have all Gringos out and he will be successfull. Congrats" Mein Fuehrer" today Panama has the most deaths per capita in the world and hurray the most cases per capita worldwide too. ! By the hardest lockdown the world ever seen ! The economy sees it and soon we all loosing jobs not earning money but paying rents and mortgages or by simple have no food thanks this "Governmending". A stupid farmer who got taxmoney the whole life for his farmings who never earned any money without getting subventions paid in tax dollars by the poor street people should never be an elected President. His will not go in 4 years he acts exactly the same way Noriega did. But if no people go out to hunt this mass murder ( every Covit death is a Cortizo death) Panama will go back into another dark century with the Captain as the police chief.
