The end of an empire ?

By Iaime  Fong Buckeridge (in La Prensa)

“After elections marked by accusations of fraud and vote-buying and an unusual –and suspicious for some– long wait to know the results of the elections, a coup riot was unleashed with deaths and injuries, and the implementation of a curfew in the capital of the country, the OAS calls for sanity and respect for institutions and democracy ... ”. No gentlemen, this is not a rerun of the Panamanian elections of the 80s or of today's Venezuela. In fact, it does not refer to any "third world" country of governments with questionable morals.

This news is from America (the country, not the continent), and as my old friend Mikhail Gorbachev would say "vieresh, ni vieresh"(Although you may not believe it), but that's the way it is, the country that is the champion of democracy, the indisputable reference point for civilized command transitions and nemesis of authoritarian governments, is experiencing a kind of mutation, an inverted Stockholm Syndrome, the one where you adopt the personality of what you fight; as the song says, "if the north were the south."

Alexis de Tocqueville is rolling in his grave because he will have to do a reissue of his book Democracy in America, which for 200 years was a must-read in political science; because what the world witnessed on Three Kings Day on Capitol Hill is far from the profile of Uncle Sam that Hollywood and the media have taught us. The smile turned grimace.

Waning influence

We have already seen how the United States has lost ground and lost influence at the international level, both politically (it could not prevent the Nagorno Karabakh war by handing over the diplomatic baton to Russia); commercially (China unseated it as Europe's first commercial partner) and military (it could not prevent the Muslim brothers from conquering Libya hand in hand with Turkey over European interests); We also see how racial issues continue with the same rancid validity as 100 years ago, lighting up the streets and shedding blood because of the color of their skin. But to see the Capitol invaded by angry mobs as it happened a few months ago in Guatemala! That he did not see coming. As Don Quixote would say: " Things you will see Sancho, things you would never believe."

The question now is: Are we living the death throes of the empire? Is this is a lead up to an independence movement of the blue states and the red states? Will the world, without its de facto guardian, fall into a new dark age, as it did after the fall of Rome? Or, on the contrary, without the "Pax Pentagoniana", the XXI century will redefine its profile in one that is multipolar and more self-determining?

Will a United States divided and more polarized than in 1860 be able to survive the unstoppable advance of China? Will it be able to face the increasingly strong Russia? Will Turkey's neo-Ottoman expansionist drive deter? Will it be able to keep Latin America under its geopolitical control?

Be that as it may, personally, I do not like that this hopeful 2021 starts with something never imagined since it opens a door where only Schrodinger's cat would be comfortable.

What evidence are you talking about? The non-existent kind that was presented in 60 court cases? Does not exist! Never did! And never will. Doesn't make any difference to you though does it?

My gaaawwwd you are a victim of CIA brainwashing. The 'orange dotard' was the greatest president the US has had since Kennedy, but for entirely different reasons. Kennedy was an intellectual, Trump obviously is not. But what Trump had was a love of country first, America First. What has happened is a coup de etat. The elite power structure has taken back control using fraud and force. The United States will now return to its scheduled role an empire in decline, subservient to the globalist profit cabal that will use China as the model to get everyone under authoritarian control. What happened on November 3 was a crime that every honest person should abhor. Trump won the election by a landslide and anyone who has honestly looked at the evidence or simply considered the situation with common sense knows that. We are going straight onto the The World Economic Forum's Great Reset and you will be happy owning nothing, or at least your progeny will be. They have told us that. And they are serious.

I understand what you say, but that assassination was only one episode in the saga of america's demise. It has never truly been a democracy as the "people" have never truly been the ones to decide on their leaders. Special interest, both private and public, have always controlled the country and history shows that that dynamic always has a finite existence. Ignorance and the absolute worst of human nature has overtaken america, with the implosion of the country iminent unless there is a major rethink. However the radical base that has been activated by the insanely homicidal orange dotard have no intention of a rethink. The hurricane is brewing and america is in its eye.

America died decades ago with the assassination of a president who vowed to break the intelligence agency cabal into a thousand pieces. Sadly, the target of that president's patriotic goal has won the war; and people like you, unable to see the truth, have enabled it. You are so far from understanding what happened in America and who is responsible for its demise it gives me great pause. For I fear the discerning, thinking public, those capable of seeing the lies and finding the truth, are now so few that all our days are numbered.

I have been of the opinion for some time now that we are seeing the death throes of a nation. History amazingly repeats itself when men fail to see the bigger picture. I am no bible-thumper but it is there that the human heart is described as "desparately wicked". Wednesday's events, coupled with the truly evil and deeply flawed leader of the last 4 years, shows truly the worst of the human heart. Rome was not conquered from without, but collapsed from within, just as america is doing right before our eyes. The pandemic, still being ignored by many trump supporters, someone dying every few minutes; the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer; a crippled govt unable to get past the power struggles of small men who aspire to be giants bringing gridlock to any effective governing. Just look at the most simple concept of infrastructure rebuilding. This would create jobs and improve the country in a real way. But all the orange dotard and his cronies could do was give trillions of dollars to the rich with huge tax cuts. And what really did that accomplish? NOTHING!! With the current anger and animosity of trump's magas, predicated entirely on a big lie told for almost 5 years, there is very little hope that Biden's best efforts will quell the fast growing chaos that is engulfing the country. History has shown that repub govts invariably create extreme recession and democratic govts fix them. But this time I am a little pessimistic of this same outcome. The bigger worry though is how this will impact the rest of us, especially the young budding and challenged democracy called Panama.
