OPINION:  Quarantine return demands answers

Panama lived 68 days of a very severe curfew. The objectives were to flatten the contagion curve, expand the attention capacity of the health system and interrupt the possibilities of infection to "win the battle" for Covid-19.

In the latter, the policy failed. During the past two weeks, cases have increased significantly. Without giving further explanations, six days after lifting the day restrictions the authorities reapply the total quarantine. And, again, they do so without a date for the end of the measure, in violation of the principles of control of power in a republic.

Undoubtedly, the increase in cases is alarming, but those infections did not occur last week. So, Why go back to quarantine? How have the new infections occurred? Why after almost 10 weeks locked up was the epidemic not controlled? To be sure, there are more and better reasons than to blame the irresponsible. But neither can we make our own analysis due to the lack of depth and detail in the available data. Where is the reflection exercise on the applied measures? - LA PRENSA, Jun.8

Pedro wrote, "your "President" will shortly end up in jail." So a year from now if Nito remains el presidente, would that disprove your prediction?

@Cappy. I dont know where you are getting your news about these security guards from the prisons. I searched the news over and I can not find it. There are off duty services where security guards and police officers can work for extra money doing that kind of stuff but they are NOT being drafted. The President has the whole secret service and the US military at his disposal. He does not need to draft anybody. Better stop reading that left wing Fake News. And yes, Pedro, find a better translator and no need for threats. Every man will reap what he sows.

Yes Captain and together with you your "President" will shortly end up in jail. Consistant breaking the law is felony. And you are one of this Regime everybody knows here. I know your identity and you will face something you never dreamed of. Pack your bags.

Next lawsuit against Turner before against Cortizo. The international laws the international companies are working to remove this Regime. And they will be successfull. They invested to much. Sad for the Panamanians i have a friend here no income and 3 kids. But the days of the insanity are counted. Fortunately they have no military to install a Dictatorship like the one in Salvador. But the streets should be full of protesters and the police should not be sure to come home again to accelerate the process. So or so justice will be happen

Reason was a too early lifting of lockdown and then a sense of its all over when it was lifted with the inevitable subsequent return to increase in infections. Panama not unique in that respect and in case the gringos didn’t notice it’s also being repeated in US. Mentions of police state makes me laugh..has nobody been following the US news lately. They even drafted in unmarked security guards from prisons to protect the President.

They may be fudging the numbers just to stay in control longer. All over the world the numbers are inflated due to improper cause of death coding. Coronavirus has the same effect as a bad flu season. All of these lock downs and house arrests are not justified. It's a global scam perpetrated by the CCP WHO and UN to make the world in compliance with Agenda 2030. Look it up and understand why this is all happening.

Must be having a bad flu season in San Paulo Gordo...mass graves all over and dropping dead in the streets in Lima. Very odd

Oh ya

People come and people go. Seem it lots in the dozen or so years. What i have seen is they expect Panama to be just like home but cheaper. To me that says they don't do their homework. Might have seen a video from International Lying or Cathleen peddle crap. Yes the country is getting worse as far as theft but expecting a 3rd world place to be just like home is foolish

JB no offense taken. Much of what you say is true and we do consider ourselves fortunate. Here in Cambutal it's very cliquish amonst the gringos and they wiil smile to your face and stick you in the back. Most businesses here are owned by people who couldn't care less if they have customers or not. We are so blessed to be putting this part of our lives behind us. My advice is for people to never buy in Panama because the situation here can turn on a dime as we have all seen. Mhogan, we have also wondered why they are so cruel here in Panama compared to other areas.

What the H is going on with Panama? Costa Rica has about the same land mass, the same population, the more or less same genetic background. They did not fo a forced lockdown (only a suggestion to stay home—many didn’t); number of Covid related deaths including today =10!! 20 people are hospitalized, 4 in intensive care. I’m trying to rationalize why such a discrepancy—I can’t. Can anyone?

Seaview my last post came off rather harsh and that was not my intention . First congratulations on the sale of your property and your safe return home. Many others who purchased are stuck here with no end in sight. All my best in what life brings you.

Seaview may I ask what you fell in love with in Cambutal? The place has nothing but mosquitos. I was there last year and we didn't even stay the night. We rolled in and there was nothing open. Typical Panama beach so that wasn't worth the drive. Mosquitos that could carry you off. lot's of gringo owned places but nothing open. Drug using surfers sleeping on the beach trying to sell us pot. Trash and broken beer bottles on the beach. No gas Station within 30 miles so we almost ran out when leaving. Cambutal is worse than Pedasi because at least in hot sticky Pedasi there was a place that had a cold beer and a mediocre pizza, not even that in Cambutal. So why the hell would anyone want to go there much less buy something there?

This is not the same Panama that we first fell in love with. We have an offer on our house in Cambutal and we have accepted. We are losing almost 50% but it's worth it to just get out of here. The buyer is a Panamanian and wants a holiday Party house for his friends and family. We were honest and showed him the poor construction but it didn't seem to bother him at all. We consider ourselves fortunate as we can return to Texas and live free again. This country is a police state now and it's not for us.

The answer is very simple. Go back to quarantine so they can extort more money from "flouters". Its a good business and it is really no different in any other country in the world. The cops are not interested in the petty thieves that they can not extract money from. If the criminal or innocent have money, then they go after them. Otherwise it is each man for himself. If you do not have the money for security, then you might as well not own anything. It may be a little better in the USA because most gringos are not born thieves, but that is changing also. In Panama, you better have an underground bunker to store your valuables.

Tomcat has the right idea get out while you can. I see in his other posts 2 of the flights out are full already that speaks volumes how people are fed up with the tyranny here. IN the USA you can own a gun and protect what you own. Here you just end up a victim like the Canadian in Tonosi. Begs the question who invests in Tonosi? Crappy little backwater with nothing but drug runners from bucaro and cambutal.
