Yesterday, a new president of the United States swore to defend the Constitution of said country in front of a reduced turnout, due to the restrictions due to the pandemic and the security measures taken in the capital of the North American nation. After the disastrous tenure of one person who ruled for himself, forgetting that he was the president of an entire nation, Joe Biden delivered a speech of reconciliation, making it very clear that he will be the president of all Americans, even those who did not support him. That is to have the vision of a statesman, to unite - even in dissent - the entire deeply divided society behind a government that fostered division and hatred. This is to see the return of institutionalism, it is to see democracy flourish again, fertilize pluralism and integrate minorities. The United States closes a dark and regrettable chapter in which a single individual put the institutions of one of the oldest democracies on the continent to the test. In a very bad way he verified that neither his lies nor fear nor fanaticism were enough to undermine a strong and well-founded democracy. Yesterday, finally, the era of the dark ages in the United States ended and one of hope begins to shine – LA PRENSA. Jan. 21
