PERHAPS there are more subtle ways to bury one of the biggest scandals of this government: the abuses suffered by minors in shelters subsidized by the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family (Senniaf), but it is clear that the intention is to turn the page without major consequences.

The State subsidizes 42 shelters throughout the country, with a population of about 905 minors under its care. Although the surface has barely been scratched, this scandal has faded into the background. And in order not to continue shaking the waters, the President of the Republic continues without appointing a director for Senniaf, and the Assembly has not agreed on a date for the Minister of Social Development and the former Deputy Director of Senniaf, today turned governor of the province of Panama. Citizens still do not know for sure, or we get to know by droppers, who is involved in the abuses and what is the responsibility of the detained people or to whom they respond. Meanwhile, in the Public Ministry, the investigations are progressing slowly and those investigated are far from being the "big guns" supposedly involved. In other words, we are almost like the first week of the scandal. – LA PRENSA, Apr. 3
