OPINION: A path to permanent drought

The Panama Canal Authority has announced that it will decrease the draft of the ships that transit through the new locks. This is, in part, the effect produced by the flow of winds and the increase in solar radiation, which has increased the evaporation of water from the Canal reservoirs. Every centimeter that is subtracted from the depth of Canal customers represents less money, jobs, and benefits for our country. This is the fourth occasion in two months when the draft has been reduced, which may worsen as long as the El Niño effect currently in progress is not over. In addition to this cyclical phenomenon, climate change and the overuse of water use present enormous challenges to the Panama Canal. Without water, there is no Canal, agriculture, hydroelectric, tourism or quality of life. The watershed of the Panama Canal requires more protection, and water management must be considered one of the great strategic problems of Panama. We cannot live with our backs to the environmental crisis, nor can we let irresponsibility with water devour us all, leaving us in a permanent drought- LA PRENSA, Mar. 1

Panama | News Room Panama Subscription Not Secured: Credit Card Numbers can be stolen and used by hackers. This has happened to me once but I caught this in time. Panama will need to secure their payment system transactions with credit cards and with PayPal. I will not be able to contribute free critical information that may save Panama from financial ruin...economically, financially and politically due to unforeseen corruption circumstances as I have done in the past. Basically, I provided free consultation fees but I am not asking for payment. I should at least get free subscription all year for this unacknowledged service. I am a Panama citizen, Thank you.

Panama | The Warning And Solution Ignored I commented on the need to replace the old Panama Canals. The old Panama Canals waste 100% of the water, two canals each. New canal replacements of 60% to 80% would save water from the El Nino. New canal replacements would take 10 to 15 years to complete. Panama Canal Authority loses the profits from the paid for old canals...no debt. Panama canals will continue to lose profits due to El Nino. When the artic ice melts completely, there will be more solar radiation. Artic melt may be the new alternative route to any Panama canals shipments. Panama will need to acknowledge this fact and provide another solution. Solution is not more water availability. Solution is not to compromise the Gatun Lake fresh water. The solution: Build a sea level canal with everything Panama has! The Panama Canal Expansion will be paid off with no debt over time. Panama must use boring tunnel machines and dynamite. Panama will save cost from water saving basins and lock system. Panama can use the water channel and save the Gatun Lake when the cut is made for the water sea level. The new tunnel bore channel can be used for extreme emergencies or... main commercial water channel route. Tunnel boring route will not cause landslide problems and excavations challenges.
