Doctor killed by covid-19 lacked funds for transplant

Dr Carlos Manuel Mendoza 31, who was infected with COVID-19, while working with an ambulance service, died on Wednesday, October 21.

The young doctor from Pintada, Cocle,  was a recent graduate and when he was infected with the virus complications developed and he needed a lung transplant and be transferred to the United States for treatment with a million-dollar price tag.

His family and friends started a collection but raised only $100,000.

" Sadly, my brother died, he fought for several days and we fought alongside him," said the doctor's sister.

They regret that despite the requests for support  over 21 days  the Government never replied says a TVN report

However, during the first seven months of 2020, President Laurentino Cortizo used $2,290,000in discretionary grants including the hospital care of Roberto "Hands of Stone" Durán,  who was also infected with COVID-19, was paid $30,000 in a private hospital for a four-day stay.
