Eight out of 10 Panamanians consider that the country is unsafe and three out of 10 have been the victim of some crime in the last year, according to an investigation by the new quality of life observatory of  Panama's the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture  (CCIAP) "Panama, tell me!"

The first report of the observatory addresses, among other components, citizen security.

The report details that 1,200 Panamanians were asked how they evaluate the country in terms of security and if in the last 12 months they had been victims of any crime.

Business unions such as the Association of Restaurants, Bars and Clubs of Panama have called for "a national crusade for safety in our streets and neighborhoods, contributing ideas and inviting the National Government to attack the problem head-on."

El Capitán nailed it! Maybe 90% of the violent crime is drug related. The US 50+ year "War on Drugs" is killing us!

Legalise all drugs . Crime over ….but make sure high taxes and thus improve treasury take . It’s going to happen anyway one day as it’s the only working solution as they found with alcohol.

Oh ya

Well it sure would be nice to see the police out at night doing something. When I do see them out at night they drive around with the flashing lights on giving warning to the bad guys that they are approaching. I have never seen a daytime only police force before coming to Panama. And having stop checks just to look at drivers licenses is not crime busting. Even just out with drinking and driving stop checks would be a good start

Panama: Monitor the 100's of Gangs with an Unconstitutional Government... Easy Task! Monitor the 100's of gangs and put out red alerts when the monitor equipment is removed! Monitor the 100's of gangs and not just rightful citizens protests against government corruption! Refusal for this task means government favors the underground corruption monetary system! This issue was addressed with citizen's concerns with the police department and as I predicted was dismissed because knowing criminal identities presented certain risk factors! Three unconstitutional advisors for president Cortizo and the Martinelli underground and legal court system are not interested in pursuing this matter tied to the mafia style underground gang operation. Confiscating drugs... well, there is free money that could be considered... [bribery money]!

@RealMINSA, probably in Europe attending useless Summits. Don’t think to question taxpayer costs — leaders will return home eventually with renewed enthusiasm for power.
