Nicaraguan Government Rejects Panama’s Stance on Daniel Ortega’s Statements

The Nicaraguan government responded on Tuesday to a statement issued by the Panamanian government, in which the latter expressed its rejection of President Daniel Ortega’s statements regarding the possible elimination of elections in the Central American country.  “We acknowledge receipt of a note that objectively violates our principles and values ​​of sovereignty and national dignity,” the Nicaraguan government stated.

It added that the document “does not represent the values ​​of non-interference and non-intervention that we have always recognized as inherent to our historical ties of Latin American and Caribbean unity,” while reiterating that “the sovereignty of our people is not up for debate; it is defended with the arguments of our constitution and jurisprudence.”  In the statement, the Managua regime maintained that both nations “will continue to be sisters in the honor and glory of having fought with nobility against all forms of imperialism, interventionism and foreign occupation.”
