Profs and students in chains to protest demagoguery

A group of professors, students and administrative staff at the University of Panama (UP), , chained themselves to the railings on Wednseday to protest against the re-election of rector Gustavo García de Paredes.

The professors are members of a group fighting the perpetual re-election of the rector.Professor Dorindo Cortez, an aspiring candidate for the post , said the protest was against the "demagoguery claims" of Garcia de Paredes.
Professor Eduardo Flores, another candidate for the leadership of the university was also present
A referendum will take place June 9.
