The harpy eagle has landed

Another American-born future permanent Panama resident, traveling first class, landed in Panama on Saturday June 15.

A harpy eagle, born in 2009 in the Miami Zoo, arrived on an American Airlines flight in a special cage en route to his new home at the Summit Zoo.

He will be named Panama, and replaces Cheyenne’ a harpy eagle that died last year aged 51. The harpy, in danger of extinction is Panama’s national bird.
Ron Magill, director of communications of the Miami Zoo, reported that the eagle "traveled in first class" and was quiet during the journey.
"I haven't slept for three days thinking about this trip," he said. "But I can say he was very calm."
The bird will be presented Monday to the Summit Zoo.
It was the first harpy eagle born in the US.
