Government commercial reprehensible – Afro-Panama community
THE NATIONAL COORDINATING ORGANIZATION of Panama’s black community has condemned the government’s latest TV campaign using a blind man of African descent to promote its “achievements”
The group described the promotional as “reprehensible" and said it created "indignity to two vulnerable groups in Panamanian society: the blind and peopleof African descent."
A statement said that many voices have been raised in a timely manner to "reject the government affront … grotesquely stereotyping and mocking “ that used the image of a person of African descent, "perversely and with sackcloth" to deal with political opponents.
The group "briskly rejects"any social stigma, and called for the shameful commercial to be “removed from the media, immediately".
the State Secretary of Communication, Luis Eduardo Camachosaid that the government of President Ricardo Martinelli used the "concept" of an Ecuadorian commercial to promote its works.
"We take good ideas, wherever they come from," said Camacho.
The Martinelli led government commercial has caused a stir across the country, mainly in social networks.
