Panama Little Leaguers take world title
SOME potential future big league baseball players from Panama strutted their stuff on the world stage on Saturday August 17 when the the Little League team from Chitre, Herrera Province, won the world baseball championship intermediate category.
The team, representing Latin America beat Pennsylvania 2 -1 after a great pitching performance by Javier García.
The Panamanians were trailing when the Americans scored their lone run in the bottom of fourth inning with Joe Zorelli.
But Panama scored twice in the sixth with runs from Abel Gallardo and Abel Frias .
This is the second time that the Panamanian team had won the Little League title , for players 15 and 16 years. In 2000 Curundú were champions under the leadership of Martin Crespo.
