Panama Port Expansion gets Canal Authority OK

The Panama Canal Authority has authorized the expansion of the Rodman Container Terminal, owned by Singapore’s PSA International.

According to Jorge Quijano, administrator of the Panama Canal, it is now up to the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) to give final approval to the extension.

The terminal is operated by the Port Authority of Singapore (PSA International) with whom the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has reached an agreement to rent 20 hectares located at the same terminal and which would be used in the future expansion.
"The Rodman Container Terminal has only one pier measuring 330 meters long, 3 gantry cranes and 450,000 TEUs of capacity. Until the first half of 2013 this terminal, operated by PSA, handled 60,213 teus" reported Thebulletinpanama.com.
Quijano said they are considering a fourth set of locks in order to meet future demand for cargo.
