University protesters bring homeward crawl to a halt
A GROUP of university students and teachers from the regional center of the University of Panama (UP) in San Miguelito, caused a massivehomeward bound rush hour traffic jam on Wednesday evening, June 10, when they closed all four lanes of Transístmica, from 7.30 until 8.
The protesters, claimed that the “government” is running a smear campaign against the University headed by the controversial rector Gustavo Garcia de Paredes.
The University is being audited by the country’s comptroller and some funds, and sale of university property have been frozen.
Thousands of drivers expressed their displeasure as they endeavored to get home.
The National Police arrived at the scene to ask the demonstrators to reopen the street.
