Car free Casco area starts Sunday

 

 A LONG  awaited and much welcomed initiative begins in Panama on Sunday Mar 6, when a partof the city’s Unesco designated historical heritage, Casco Viejo   becomes  a vehicle free pedestrian walkway.

The new venture runs  from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and  will continue  every Sunday at the same time.

The aim is to enable people to explore the historic space from Santa Ana park to the premises of the headquarters of the Ministry of Government says a statement from the Mayor’s office.

The activity is driven by the City of Panama and Casco Antiguo Office (OCA).

According to the OCA, through this experience, people can explore part of the historic center by walking its central avenue, without vehicular traffic.

Officials of the National Police, the Institutional Protection Service, Transit Authority and Land Transport, Municipal Police and the Municipality of Panama will be on hand to ensure safety and orderly movement.

Visitors will find the Casco’s  Mercadito focused on selling handicrafts, jewelery and antiques.

parking and free transportation will be provided from the Cinta Costera  to the Old Town and vice versa.-
