A Couple will Experience the Traditional Peasant Wedding: Manito Ocueño Festival
The National Manito Ocueño Festival will once again celebrate its traditional peasant wedding this Saturday, one of its most representative activities.
The Manito Ocueño Festival will celebrate one of its most emblematic activities this Saturday: the traditional peasant wedding, a representation that rescues the customs and traditions of the ancient inhabitants of Ocú, in the province of Herrera. For this edition, 20 couples applied hoping to be chosen to star in the ceremony, although only one couple will be selected. The wedding will take place at the San Sebastián parish, as part of the festival’s official program. The organizers will cover all the ceremony’s expenses, keeping alive a tradition celebrated annually during this important folk festival.
Why is the Peasant Marriage Performed at the Manito Festival?
The peasant wedding is part of the schedule of the National Manito Ocueño Festival with the aim of rescuing, promoting and preserving the customs of the ancestors, as well as paying homage to the life of the man and woman of the countryside in Ocú. This representation, both religious and cultural, recreates the way marriages were celebrated in the region decades ago, preserving traditional elements such as clothing, music, customs and ceremonies of the time.
When will the Manito Festival Be?
The Manito Ocueño Festival will take place from August 13th to 16th. During these four days, the district of Ocú, in the province of Herrera, will host a wide range of activities aimed at preserving and promoting the traditions and customs of the country’s interior.
