Panama Police Operations Yesterday Resulted in 132 Arrests and the Seizure of Seven Firearms
The National Police reported that they arrested 132 people in the last 24 hours in different parts of the country. According to the police report, 91 people were arrested ex officio, 33 for administrative offenses, five caught in the act, and three for alleged crimes related to micro-trafficking. The agency also reported that, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, police units carried out 68 search warrants, resulting in the seizure of seven firearms, 635 rounds of ammunition, eight magazines, and $4,555.00 in cash.
In addition, 3 vehicles and 42 head of cattle that had been reported stolen were recovered. Regarding traffic violations, the National Police reported issuing 693 tickets for traffic violations. The most frequent infractions included 213 for speeding, 25 for improper lighting, nine for driving with an expired license, and five for driving under the influence. It was also reported that 42 vehicles were towed. During the day, 61 traffic accidents were recorded, leaving six people injured, according to the official report of the National Police.
More than 570 People were Captured and 23 Weapons were Seized During Operations under Plan Firmeza
A total of 574 people were captured in the last 72 hours as part of the actions carried out by the National Police within the framework of Plan Firmeza. According to the official report of the National Police, of the arrests, 321 correspond to people wanted by order, 174 for administrative offenses, 45 in flagrante delicto, 23 for micro-trafficking and one for drug trafficking.
In coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, authorities carried out 123 search warrants, during which they seized 23 firearms, 233 rounds of ammunition, 14 magazines, five packages of suspected drugs, $205.00 in cash, 325 straws containing white powder, and 17 pills of suspected ecstasy.
They also recovered eight vehicles. Regarding traffic violations, the National Police reported issuing 3,332 tickets for traffic infractions. The most frequent violations included 733 for speeding, 146 for driving with improper lights, 60 for driving with expired licenses, and 99 for driving under the influence. Additionally, 316 vehicles were towed. During the same period, 289 traffic accidents were recorded, leaving 87 people injured and three fatalities in the provinces of Panama, Chiriquí and Coclé.
