World Cup 2026: ‘The Red Fury’ Spain Defeats Argentina 1-0 in Overtime

Spain once again etched its name in football history. La Furia Roja were crowned champions of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Argentina 1-0 in a tense, balanced, and emotional final that went to extra time.  The match began with Argentina determined to take the initiative, but Spain quickly responded with intense pressure that disrupted Argentina’s build-up play. The first clear chance came early, when Lamine Yamal created danger inside the area, but Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez made a crucial save to maintain the draw.  Spain dominated possession for much of the match, but were met by a solid Argentine defense. In the second half, Spain continued to dominate possession, while Argentina held firm and looked to capitalize on set pieces. The match became a tactical and physical battle, with both teams aware that a single mistake could decide the title. Tensions rose in the closing stages of the match when Argentina were reduced to ten men after Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card. However, Emiliano Martínez once again proved his mettle, saving a dangerous free kick from Lamine Yamal and sending the final into extra time.  In extra time, Spain finally found the net. Argentina tried to respond in the final minutes and came close to equalizing. A loose ball fell into the box, but the Spanish defense cleared the danger. The last great opportunity fell to Giuliano Simeone, who had a chance to tie the game from the penalty spot, but his shot went over the crossbar.  The final whistle confirmed the victory: Spain are world champions for the second time in their history. Ferran Torres emerged as the hero of an unforgettable final, a match filled with drama until the very last second.
