Four People Arrested for Child Sexual Abuse Crimes: Operation Child Shield

The individuals were apprehended in Operation Child Shield for their alleged involvement in crimes related to child sexual abuse material.

Four people were arrested during Operation Child Shield, carried out by authorities in the provinces of Panama, Panama West, Veraguas and Bocas del Toro, for their alleged involvement in crimes related to child sexual abuse material.  The proceedings are part of investigations aimed at combating this type of crime and protecting children and adolescents.  The operations were carried out simultaneously in different regions of the country, where authorities made the arrests as part of ongoing investigations.  So far, authorities have not revealed further details about the identities of those under investigation or about the evidence gathered during the operation.

Precautionary Measures Issued

As a result of the hearings held:

  • One of the suspects was placed under provisional detention.
  • Another of those apprehended, in the province of Bocas del Toro, was released.
  • A third defendant, in West Panama, was subject to precautionary measures of periodic reporting and prohibition from approaching Internet cafes.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the possible criminal liability of those involved.
